Visiting Romanian president discusses with Croatian officials on entering Schengen area

Visiting Romanian President Klaus Werner Iohannis expressed his support to the enlargement of European Union in Zagreb on Monday.

Iohannis, who is paying a two-day visit to Croatia, said that he supported the Croatian-Slovenian initiative to call a meeting of the European Council with leaders from Southeast Europe in order to put a new impetus to the enlargement process.

He also discussed with Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic respectively on the issue of the two contries' attempt to enter the Schengen area.

Grabar-Kitarovic said at a joint press conference with her Romanian counterpart that Croatia and Romania are facing the same challenges - continuing to fight against corruption and organized crime and strengthening of the judicial independency.

During their meeting, Milanovic informed Iohannis that Croatia planed to submit its official application to enter the Schengen area on July 1. Endit
