Russia is interested in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in areas such as the food market, said visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Saturday.

"More than that, if this cooperation expands, we are interested in it," the Russian president added.

Putin stressed that Russia and Azerbaijan are making great efforts to ensure the diversification of bilateral relations.

Aliyev, in turn, said that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia is developing steadily, "allowing us to look to the future with optimism."

"Relations between our countries are developing very positively and dynamically, and each year we raise the bar higher and higher", Ilham Aliyev said.

Putin arrived here on Friday to attend the opening ceremony of the European Games.

He met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Azerbaijani president on Saturday to discuss bilateral relations and key regional problems. Endi
