China launches "energy saving" week to raise awareness

Xinhua, June 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Fourteen Chinese ministries jointly opened a week-long educational program, the 25th of its kind, to raise people's awareness of energy conservation on Saturday.

The program will involve a series of activities to spread energy-saving knowledge and make the public more energy-saving conscious.

Zhang Yong, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said at Saturday's launching ceremony that the activities aim to promote green consumption and green life styles.

China has intensified efforts to make its economic model greener and more sustainable by promoting non-fossil fuels and energy-saving technologies.

Between 2011 and 2014, China's energy consumption for per unit of GDP had dropped by 13.4 percent, said Zhang. Endi
