Cuba eyes second place at Pan Am Games

Cuba is aiming for a second place finish at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada in July, according to Antonio Becali, the President of Cuba's National Sports Institute (INDER).

Becali said on Friday that more than 400 Cuban athletes would compete in 232 events of 36 sports at the Pan American Games.

After landing 58 titles in the last Pan American Games in Guadalajara in 2011, Cuban athletes were expected to win over 50 gold medals in Toronto.

Becali said that the Pan American Games in Toronto will be a very tough challenge, but Cuban athletes have been well prepared.

The Toronto Pan American Games will also provide certain amount of tickets in various sports to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, and the Cuban delegation will strive to get as many tickets as possible.

More than 6,000 athletes from 41 countries and regions were expected to take part in the Pan American Games from July 10 to 26. Endi
