Xinhua, June 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Four athletes have been selected to represent Uganda at the IAAF 2015 World Youth Championship to take place in Colombia next month.

"We have picked four athletes from the various national trials we have had on the calendar. They are the best we have and we are confident they will bring us some medals from Colombia," Dominic Otuchet, President Uganda Athletics Federation told Xinhua on Friday.

Otuchet explained that they would have wanted to take more athletes, but have been forced to have a small team because of the financial implication involved. "We do not have money and there are many other competitions where we have to send athletes," he added.

Janat Chemusto, the Africa Youth 1,500m silver medalist who also won a 3,000m bronze medal in Mauritius is part of the team. Chemusto is also part of the two-man team that traveled on Friday to take part in the Eastern Africa Youth Athletics Championships in Khartoum, Sudan.

The others include Abel Boniface Sikowo, Maxwell Bua Rotich and Peruth Chemutai. Barbara Asimwe will lead the Ugandan team to Colombia.

The event to take place in the town of Cali from July 15-19 will also attract runners from the top performing nations like Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea. Endi
