Uganda attacking midfielder William Kizito Luwagga has signed a deal with top Portugal side Rio Ave.
Luwagga who arrived on Friday ahead of a Uganda home game tie against Botswana on Saturday in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier said he was excited to join the top league.
"Yes I signed with a new club Rio Ave on Thursday and am happy to move to the top flight league in Portugal," he told Xinhua.
Luwagga who scored 17 goals for Sporting Colvilha in the second Division in Portugal last season said that he thanks God for blessing him to make this move.
"It is all because of hard work that this dream has come true," said Luwagga who formerly played for SC Vipers back in the Uganda Premier League.
Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic, the Uganda Cranes coach said he was happy for Luwagga and added that he hopes other Uganda players learn from him to work hard.
"Signing a three year deal for a top team in Portugal is good news. I am happy for Luwagga," added Sredojevic.
