Chinese ambassador condemns poaching of African rhinos

Xinhua, June 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese ambassador to Namibia Xin Shunkang has reiterated Chinese government does not condone the illicit poaching of endangered African rhinos.

Speaking to Xinhua on Friday, Xin restated that the Chinese government sets great store by the protection of wildlife, including rhino.

"On countering wildlife poaching, our attitude is resolute. We adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards it, and have enacted a series of laws and regulations, established a joint law enforcement mechanism incorporating multiple agencies, and taken an active role in the international law enforcement cooperation to severely crack down on poaching activities. We also organize extensive education campaigns to raise public awareness about wildlife protection," the ambassador said.

Xin said that as a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, China has been following the convention strictly and playing a positive role internationally.

"We even have been actively conducting exchanges and cooperating with some African countries to provide more personnel training and funding for wildlife protection," he added. Endi
