Algeria invites Uganda for Olympic qualifier warmup

Xinhua, June 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Algeria Football Federation has invited Uganda's U-23 team for an international friendly on July 14 in Algiers.

Head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic told Xinhua here on Thursday that the Algerian FA want to use the international friendly to prepare their team for the 2016 Olympic Games/2015 CAF U-23 Championship qualifier.

"This will be a very timely friendly because we shall also be preparing to take on Egypt in the first leg of the Olympic Games qualifier in Cairo on July 14," said Sredojevic.

Uganda beat Rwanda 4-1 on aggregate last month in the first round of the Olympic qualifier.

Sredojevic explained that they will travel to Algeria and connect straight to Cairo after the game. The coach said playing Algeria will be a perfect test because their style of play is similar to Egypt.

"The hosts are ready to meet the costs for travel and accommodation for the trip," he added.

If Uganda beat Egypt in the last phase of the 2016 Olympic Games/CAF U-23 Championship qualifier, they will qualify for the African event to be taken place in Senegal in December.

The best three teams at the African event will automatically qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

Following are Uganda's squad:

Jamal Salim, James Alitho, Ibrahim Kiyemba, Deus Bukenya, Brian Ochwo, Joseph Nsubuga, Shafiki, Bakaki, Tadeo Lwanga, Derrick Tekkwo, Keziron Kizito, Muzamiru Mutyaba, Farouk Miya (captain), Tom Masiko, Martin Kiiza, Umar Kasumba, John Ssemazi, Erisa Sekisambu, and Fahad Muhhamad Hassan. Endi
