Mozambique to face Rwanda for CAN 2017

Xinhua, June 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Mozambican national soccer team, the "Mambas" is in full swing to face its Rwandan counterpart on Sunday in the capital Maputo, for the first round of the CAN 2017 tournament in group H.

Training for the encounter started this week for the game to take place at Zimpeto national stadium. The "Mambas" coach Joao Chissano said his players are in good shape and that "all are aware that Rwanda is a strong team".

"But the team is ready to face the Rwandese without fear," he said.

Chissano urges the players to be attentive and concentrated to the game. "I have been talking to the players so that they can face the game. We have been noticing that when we play against a team that we can beat, our performance is poorer than we play against strong national teams," he lamented.

Mozambique is also going to play against the Mauritius and Ghana in the group, and Chissano urges the players to perform accordingly, because Ghana is a strong team.

According to the coach, defender Zainadine Jr, who plays for the Portuguese club Desportivo Nacional, will not play against Rwanda, due to the passing away of his mother.

Wednesday's training session was witnessed by the Mozambican youth and sports minister, Alberto Nktumula.

Referees are from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Endi
