World champion Alba heads Cuban squad to Toronto 2015

Xinhua, June 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

World champion Rafael Alba will spearhead Cuba's seven-athlete taekwondo team at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, on July 10-26, a sports official said here Wednesday.

Alba (80 kilograms) is accompanied by Jose Angel Cobas, the Centro-American and Caribbean king in Veracruz 2014, in the division of 67 kilograms.

Alba and Cobas are the main hopes of Cuban Taekwondo federation to achieve gold in the continental meeting, the official added.

Both men won bronze in the last world championship in Chelyabinsk 2015, Russia, while Alba claimed a gold medal in the previous edition in Puebla, Mexico 2013.

The taekwondo competition at Toronto 2015 is scheduled for July 19-22 at the Sports Center of Mississauga. Cuba's main rivals are Mexico, the United States, Canada and the Dominican Republic in this discipline. Endi
