McClaren becomes Newcastle's new coach

The Premier League club Newcastle announced on Wednesday that, fromer England manager Steve McClaren has been appointed as the new manager of the team.

McClaren's contract with the club will last three years. The 54-year-old man said in a statement on the Newcastle website, "I am privileged to be appointed head coach of Newcastle United. This is a big club with a wonderful heritage."

"St James' Park is like a cathedral on a Saturday afternoon, a symbol for the city, and I am excited to be given this opportunity." He added.

McClaren was recognized as the 'shortest life' coach in England national team, he named as the chief coach of team England in 2006 and was fired out by the FA in October 2007, whose coach career there only lasted for 18 months.

Newcastle only avoided relegation from the Premier League on the season's final day.

"Steve has been tasked to secure a top-eight finish in the Premier League and he is also heavily incentivised to try to win a cup competition." said managing director Lee Charnley. Endi
