Merkel, Hollande express readiness to meet Tsipras

Xinhua, June 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande on Wednesday said they were ready to have a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the sidelines of the EU-Latin American summit.

"The goal is to keep Greece in the euro zone. I always approach these things with the attitude: if there is a will there is a way," Merkel said at the doorstep of the summit in Brussels.

She added that on the fringes of the summit, there may be a meeting with Tsipras as well with Hollande.

"We will only have one message: we must now move quickly, we must not relent, we must not allow solutions that would be bad for Greece, for the European Union and for the euro zone," Hollande said when arriving at the EU-Latin American summit.

He added that he remained open to meeting Tsipras on the sidelines of the summit.

An EU official told reporters that a meeting between the three leaders may take place Wednesday night "after dinner." Endit
