Themed "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life", Expo Milano 2015 focuses on food and agriculture, with exhibitors presenting their respective food cultures while exemplifying the crucial role of building a "community of common destiny" for food security.
Peking duck, Argentinian wine, Japanese sushi, Spanish ham... All the characteristic specialties represent the culinary culture of different nations. Food differs, but cuisines have something in common.
For example, Chinese dumplings and Italian ravioli have the same idea of wrapping fillings up, and Angolan traditional noodles strongly resemble Italian pasta.
Food connects the whole world. The diversity and similarity of cuisines brings together people of different lifestyles as well as cultural recognition and resonance. People not only share their attitudes towards food and agriculture during Milan Expo, but also exchange thinking on common food issues as they relate to humanity, such as fighting hunger and agricultural development.
The World Expo dates back to the 1850s. It's aim is to exchange new technological information and enhance scientific development all over the world. Despite our increasing reliance on technology, face-to-face interaction still plays an irreplaceable role at the expo, as it could give a stronger visual impression and convey information better.
Thus, the World Expo offers such a stage for participating countries to exchange their views directly with each other, and share their experiences and solutions to global problems. For instance, Israel is showcasing techniques that accommodate the country's limited land and water resources.
It's "vertical garden" of 70 meters in length and 12 meters high highlights the Israel pavilion as an agricultural power in the Middle East. The green wall planted with rice, wheat and corn shows the country's vertical farming and drip irrigation techniques, which overcome the gravity problem, and maintains moisture to keep the plants dense in dry climate.
"We have only one planet, and countries share one world," said Chinese President Xi Jinping in his keynote speech at the Asian Boao Forum in March. He concentrated on the concept of building a "community of common destiny." President Xi also said that it was only through win-win cooperation that the world could make big and sustainable achievements that were beneficial to all.
All countries should share wisdom and success stories to face critical issues affecting humanity, as they do during the Milan Expo, so that the way forward is together. Endit
