Afghan battle kills 9 in northern province

Clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban militants claimed the lives of nine people including six insurgents in the northern Kunduz province with Kunduz city as its capital 250 km north of Kabul on Tuesday night, a senior police official Abdullah Gard said Wednesday. "A group of Taliban militants attacked a house of a local police commander in Ali Abad district last night which triggered gun battle and lasted for a while during which six rebels and three police had been killed,"Gard told reporters.

Five more militants were injured during the firefight, the official confirmed.
