The Azerbaijani athletes competing at 2015 Baku European Games will receive cash prizes if they win, according to the decree of Azeri President Ilham Aliyev signed Tuesday.

The Azerbaijani athletes will receive nearly $100,000 for a gold medal, $50,000 for silver, and $30,000 for bronze. Their personal trainers will also get a cash bonus.

The inaugural 2015 European Games are scheduled to be held in Baku this year from June 12 to June 28 and feature more than 6,000 athletes from 50 European NOCs competing in 20 sports.

Baku was awarded the right to host the first European Games at the 41st EOC General Assembly in Rome, on December 8, 2012. The European Games will take place every four years thereafter, with the next competition due to be held in 2019. Endi
