Spain's Q1 housing prices rise by 1.5 pct

Housing prices in Spain rose by 1.5 percent in the first quarter of 2015 when compared with the same period in 2014, according to data released on Tuesday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).

The INE said prices of new houses rose by 4 percent in the first quarter on a year-on-year basis and prices of second-hand houses rose by 1.1 percent.

The INE reported that housing prices fell by 0.6 percent from the last quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2015. Prices of new houses rose by 2.2 percent while prices of second-hand houses fell by 1 percent.

Housing prices rose in 13 out of 17 Spanish regions in the first quarter year-on-year with Madrid and the Balearic Islands registering the highest increases.

Housing prices in the country have been rising for four consecutive quarters. Endit
