Turkey ratifies military cooperation agreement with Qatar

Xinhua, June 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Turkey has ratified a military cooperation agreement with Qatar, according to the Turkish Official Gazette on Monday.

Under the deal, signed in December 2014, Turkey and Qatar will be able to use each other's ports, airports, airspace and benefit from each other's military facilities.

According to the agreement, mechanisms to allow the deployment of joint forces, if needed, will be put in place, Anadolu news agency said.

The deal comes as the Middle East is facing mounting security concerns amid a civil war in Syria, the fight against the Islamic State (IS) group and ongoing conflicts in Libya and Yemen.

Turkey and Qatar have similar stances on these regional issues. Endit
