IOC to decide on new disciplines for Pyeongchang Winter Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make decision on the new disciplines added for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games in Monday's executive board meeting, spokesman Mark Adams told a media briefing on Sudnay.

"The federations have made suggestions they have been looked at. I can't preempt a decision but those new disciplines will be discussed," he said.

No specific disciplines have been disclosed, but Adams confirmed that they only need approval from the executive board.

Fifteen EB members, including the IOC president Thomas Bach and one of the four vice presidents Yu Zaiqing of China, were attending a two-day meeting starting Sunday at the Laussane headquarters.

"Those accepted can be put into place," added Adams. "There will be no surprises for the international federations."

As part of the Olympic Agenda 2020, the IOC have been trying to make the Olympics more appealing, especially to young people, with efforts like limiting the number of disciplines rather than sports in one edition of the Games.

The IOC EB meeting will also receive reports from Tokyo 2020, coming out the first organizers to make suggestions on sports they wish to include.

In other developments, the 15-member EB approved Sunday the IOC membership for two new members, whose names are to be revealed later and who're not holding rights to vote on the election between the two 2022 Winter Games candidate cities Beijing and Almaty. Endi
