Cyprus arrests naturalized Lebanese for importing 5 tons of ammonium nitrate

Cypriot authorities arrested a 62-year old naturalized Lebanese on suspicion of importing 5 tons of ammonium nitrate which was allegedly intended for bombing attacks on Israeli targets, a police statement said on Saturday.

It added that the man was implicated by evidence collected during investigations involving another Lebanese, aged 26, who is being held on charges of possessing the ammonium nitrate and of conspiring to commit a crime.

The man was arrested in Nicosia and is expected to be brought before a court for a remand order on Sunday.

The police statement said the main imported the ammonium nitrate, which can be mixed with other substances to become a powerful explosive, in small first aid kits. Endit
