New deal for Sevilla coach Emery ends doubts over his future

Xinhua, June 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sevilla coach Unai Emery ended speculation about his future at the club by extending his contract for a further season late on Friday night.

Emery has extended the deal he had with the club until June 2016 for a further year until the end of the 2016-17 season.

By doing this he has quashed doubts he was considering leaving Sevilla for a possible move to the Barclay' s Premier League after a campaign which saw Sevilla finish fifth in the BBVA Primera Liga with a record haul of 76 points, while also winning the Europa League for the second year in succession.

Emery' s two seasons in Sevilla have so far yielded two fifth place finishes and two European titles.

This season' s Europa League title also means that Sevilla have also qualified for next season' s Champions League, but the win also meant that Emery had become a coach in demand with clubs such as Real Madrid and West Ham United rumored to be interested in contracting him.

All of that speculation was ended by the communique from Sevilla which confirmed the decision taken by the 44-year-old who was also successful during his spells with Lorca, Almeria and Valencia, who he led to three third place finishes. Endi
