Vietnam's electricity consumption in May reached 12 billion kWh, up 12 percent year-on-year, hitting its highest level in five years, according to Vietnam's state-own power corporation Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on Friday.
The company attributed remarkable hike in the country's May electricity consumption to heat wave that occurred nationwide during the month, said a press released posted on EVN's website on Friday.
In the first five months of 2015, EVN has sold over 55 billion kWh of electricity to its customers, up 11 percent year-on-year.
Among those, electricity consumed in Northern Vietnam during five-month period posted the highest year-on-year increase at 14 percent. The central and southern regions ranked the second and third with 11 percent and 10 percent in growth, respectively.
During the January-May period, over 64 billion kWh of electricity was produced across Vietnam, up 12 percent from the same period in 2014. Excluding electricity bought from China, the figures ensure that Vietnam will not face electricity shortage during ongoing hot season, said EVN. Endi
