Campaign bus of Turkish pro-Kurdish party attacked, driver killed

Xinhua, June 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Unidentified assailants fired on a campaign minibus of the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) in Turkey's southeast late Wednesday, killing the driver, private Dogan news agency reported Thursday.

Turkish security forces found the minibus was shot at several times on a motorway in the town of Karliova of Bingol province, Dogan said.

The driver, Hamdullah Oge, was found dead some 25 meters away from the bus after an armed attack by the unidentified assailants, said a statement issued by Bingol Governor's Office, which noted that an investigation into the incident has been launched.

It was not the first time the HDP had come under attack during the election campaigning period. On May 18, seven people were injured in simultaneous explosions at two HDP headquarters in southern Adana and Mersin provinces of Turkey.

The twin blasts occurred on the day HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtas was set to hold a rally in Mersin as part of his campaign for the upcoming general elections.

Turkey is scheduled to hold general elections on June 7. Endi
