Tokyo stocks end slightly higher on optimism over Japanese economy

Tokyo stocks ended 0.07 percent higher Thursday on optimism over Japanese economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 14.68 points, from Wednesday at 20,488.19. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 3.90 points, or 0.23 percent, to 1,673.89.

Major gainers included insurance, securities and glass and ceramics issues.

The turnover was 2,691.17 billion yen (about 21.62 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
