Tokyo stocks open higher in early trading on overseas markets gains

Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher in early trading Thursday as gains in European and U.S. stocks overnight gave a boost to investor sentiment.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 66.60 points, or 0.33 percent, from Wednesday to 20,540.11. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 3.03 points, or 0.18 percent, to 1,673.02.

Gainers were led by insurance, securities and glass and ceramics products. Endi
