Post offices across Finland closed due to workers' protest

Xinhua, June 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Post offices across Finland were shut down on Wednesday due to a postal workers strike, local media reported.

All 98 post offices in Finland were closed. The Finnish Postal and Logistics Union, PAU was discontented with the co-determination talks with Posti Group, the postal and logistics service provider of Finland.

According to the union, Posti plans to close more than 80 post offices and lay off 380 employees in the coming years.

In the negotiation held on Tuesday, no satisfactory solution was reached between PAU and Posti. The union, therefore, called a one-day strike staged on Wednesday.

The postal offices are expected to reopen as usual on Thursday, said local media.

Founded in 1638, Posti Group is a state-owned company of Finland operating in more than 10 countries around Europe. The group slashed about 1,100 jobs last year. Currently, it employs about 23,000 postal workers. Enditem
