Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday arrived in Khartoum to take part in the inauguration of the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for a new presidential term.

Sisi was received upon arrival at Khartoum airport by Sudanese First Vice-President Bakri Hassan Saleh and a number of government officials.

"Sisi's participation in the inauguration ceremony of president al-Bashir reflects the deeply-rooted ties between Sudan and Egypt," Ahmed Bilal Osman, Sudan's information minister, told reporters at Khartoum airport.

"The political will of the two countries' leaderships in developing the bilateral ties is likely to enhance the procession of the historical communication in a manner that benefits the two peoples of the Nile Valley," he noted.

Khartoum on Tuesday also received a number of African leaders participating in the inauguration of al-Bashir, including Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Djibouti President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, Chadian President Idriss Deby, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy, Environmental Protection Minister Chen Jining, arrived in Khartoum on Monday to attend the al-Bashir's inauguration ceremony.

Al-Bashir is scheduled to take oath on Tuesday before the parliament as Sudan's president for a new five-year term of office.

Al-Bashir, who is the chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), achieved a landslide victory in the presidential polls in April, obtaining 94.5 percent of the votes.

His party also won the largest number of votes in the legislative elections to enjoy the majority of the seats in the National Assembly (parliament). Endit
