Australia's current account deficit down

Australia's current account deficit was 10.7 billion Australian dollars (8.6 billion U.S. dollars) in the March quarter, official figures show.

Economists had expected a deficit of 10.9 billion Australian dollars (8.32 U.S. dollars) in the first quarter. The seasonally adjusted surplus on goods and services increased and is expected to add 0.5 percentage points to gross-domestic-product growth in the same quarter.

The latest GDP figures for Australia are due to be reported on Wednesday.Australia's net foreign debt rose by 3 percent in the first quarter, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said. Endi
