Former world No. 1 Aranatxa Sanchez-Vicario will play in the WTA Legends Classic at the 2015 Finals Singapore, announced the Women's TEnnis Association (WTA) here on Monday.

Formerly known as Aranatxa Sanchez before becoming a wife and mum, the Spanish icon is one of the most accomplished women in Open Era tennis, having won 29 WTA singles titles during her career, including four Grand Slam championships and three of them on clay of Roland Garros, as well as 69 doubles titles.

"I am so excited to be playing in Singapore for the first time since my first big overseas trip when I was 14 years old," said the former French Open winner in 1989, 1994 and 1998.

This year's WTA Finals features a record seven million U.S. dollars prize money and includes an expanded format featuring eight days of competition slated on Oct. 23 to Nov. 1.

"I've heard so many great things about last year's WTA Finals, and can't wait to feel the energey of the fans for myself," said Sanchez-Vicario, who joins fellow great Martina Navratilova in the four-woman WTA Legends Classic field.

The city state is the host for the WTA year-ending event between 2014 to 2018.

Sanchez-Vicario will also support and promote the "Road to Singapore", a season-long campaign that follows the WTA stars, WTA Rising Stars and WTA Future Stars on their quest to qualify and compete in the season finale.

The latest news about the Spaniard was former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki started working with her a couple of weeks ago to prepare for the clay court season but parted away later on with undisclosed reason.

The Dane, the fifth seed who crashed out of this year's Roland Garros in the second round with straight-set defeat to German Julia Goerges, has tried working with several coaches in the past but has always turned back to working with her father, Piotr Wozniacki. Enditem
