Seoul shares ended lower on Monday.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 12.43 points, or 0.59 percent, to 2,102.37 at the close. Trading volume stood at 420.72 million shares worth 5.7 trillion won (5.14 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed 0.03 percent higher on Monday, marking the 12th straight trading day of expansion, as optimism over Japan's economic outlook won over concerns about overseas markets.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 6.72 points, from Friday's 20,569.87, a fresh 15-year closing high. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 4.91 points, or 0.29 percent, to 1,678.56.
The turnover was 2,534.02 billion yen (about 20.42 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed substantially lower on Monday as banking and mining stocks dropped.
At the official market close, the benchmark S & P/ASX200 index was down 41.8 points, or 0.72 percent, at 5735.4, while the broader All Ordinaries index fell 40.9 points, or 0.71 percent, to 5734.

SHANGHAI -- Chinese shares soared on Monday after positive data on China's manufacturing activities in May.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index soared 4.71 percent to finish at 4,828.74 points. The Shenzhen Component Index rocketed 5. 07 percent to close at 16,917.53 points.

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 0.77 percent on Monday with the weighted index down 75.38 points at 9,625.69, according to news reaching here from Taipei.
Turnover totaled 91.24 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.97 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 172.97 points, or 0.63 percent to 27,597.16 points on Monday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,241.95 and 27, 766.32. Turnover totaled 164.84 billion HK dollars (about 21.24 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.19 percent higher on Monday.
The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 89. 91 points to 7670.37. The all-share index went up by 36.56 points, or 0.84 percent, to 4397.37.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 83.89 points on Monday, up 0.66 points, or 0.79 percent, against the previous closing session.
A total of 44.282 million shares worth 510.182 billion Vietnamese dong (23.62 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday, a decrease of 15.41 percent in volume and 8.01 percent in value against the previous closing session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 574.98 points on Monday, up 5.42 points, or 0.95 percent, against last Friday's closing session.
About 118.501 million shares worth 1.762 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (81.33 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 90 stocks went up, 114 stocks fell down, while 72 stocks remained unchanged.
