Senior PLA official holds bilateral meetings on sidelines of Shangri-La Dialogue

Admiral Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of the General Staff of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA), separately met with Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu and South Korean Defense Minister Han Min-koo on Sunday during the third day of 14th Shangri-La Dialogue.
China and Indonesia have deepened political mutual trust, improved their dialogue and cooperation mechanism, and enhanced cooperation in various fields since the two countries established diplomatic ties over 60 years ago, said Sun.
Bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership has been further strengthened when Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited China this March, said the admiral, adding the two armies have also enhanced cooperation in various areas in recent years.
China is willing to work with Indonesia to step up pragmatic cooperation between the two armies, and enrich the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, he said.
For his part, Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said he has gained a clear knowledge of China's stance on the South China Sea issue and the security of Asia-Pacific after listening to Admiral Sun's speech. Indonesia understands and supports China's policy and is willing to work with China and other regional countries by strengthening communication and cooperation to maintain peace and stability of the South China Sea and make positive contributions to the prosperity and development of regional countries, he said.
Meanwhile, the minister said Indonesia is committed to further promoting friendly relations between Indonesia and China, and expressed his hope that new progress will be made through future bilateral cooperation.
Sun also met with South Korean Defense Minister Han Min-koo on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue. Sun said relationship between the two armies has developed well with frequent high-level interaction, expanding cooperation in various areas, as well as deepened mutual trust in recent years.
China hopes to strengthen cooperation with South Korea to achieve common prosperity and development, and maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, said Sun.
Han Min-koo said that South Korea and China share a long history of bilateral relations. South Korean President Park Geun- hye and Chinese President Xi Jinping have jointly promoted the relations between the two countries, with economic and cultural cooperation enhancing and the relationship between the two armies strengthening, he said.
Han hoped that the two armies continue to implement their consensus, step up high-level and personnel exchanges, deepen institutional communication, and constantly explore new areas of cooperation.
Sun and Han also exchanged their views on issues of common concern, including the situation in Northeast Asia. Endi
