Western Balkans call on EU to provide financial support for infrastructure

Xinhua, May 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Prime Ministers from Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia and Kosovo on Thursday called on the European Union to provide assistance and financial support for infrastructure and connectivity projects between Western Balkan region and the EU countries.

Edi Rama, Albanian prime minister, said at the Vienna Economic Forum held in Tirana that to finance these infrastructure and connectivity projects in the region is to finance part of Europe, since the Western Balkan region is part of Europe.

Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic also appealed for European assistance for development of joint regional projects.

"It is a good thing to talk with each other, but we must go further towards concrete implementation of joint projects as this is what our citizens expect," Vucic said.

Vucic emphasized that acceleration of the EU integration process is of great importance to the Western Balkans, because the region is very fragile.

"If we cannot get help and support from the EU, we have to try and do as much as we can on our own," he stressed. Endit
