Macao's retail sales down 5 pct in Q1

Macao's retail sales in the first three months of 2015 deceased by 5 percent quarter-on-quarter to 16.41 billion patacas (2.05 billion USD), the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Tuesday.

The figure showed that total retail sales in the first quarter witnessed 11 percent fall year over year. Sales of watches and jewelry which accounting for 23 percent of the total sales tumbled by 31 percent to 3.73 billion patacas. Then followed with leather goods(-28 percent), goods in department stores (-13 percent) and cars(-13 percent), but the performance in communication equipment soared by 56 percent.

Retail sales volume in first quarter of 2015 fell by 3 percent compared with the figures of last quarter, among which leather goods and foods presents declined by 14 percent both, watches & jewelry, and cars fell 13 percent and 12 percent respectively. Communication equipment's sales volume increase by 25 percent quarterly on the contrary. Endi
