Jordan inks investment agreements worth 7 bln USD

Jordan signed on Friday a number of investment agreements worth seven billion U.S. dollars at the World Economic Forum (WEF), mostly in energy sector.

Jordan hosts the WEF on the eastern shores of the Dead Sea from Friday to Saturday. Under the theme of "Creating a Regional Framework for Prosperity and Peace through Public-Private Cooperation," participants looks into investments and socio-economic challenges in the region.

At the forum, Jordan signed a letter of intent with China's Hanergy to build solar and wind projects with total capacity of one gegawatts, which is worth 1.5 billion dollars and will extends for 20 years.

Jordan also signed an agreement with British Gas Corporation to buy liquefied natural gas total value of six billion dollars for a period of 20 years.

The Kingdom also signed several agreements in the field of technology, transport and infrastructure.

This year's event marks the forum's ninth gathering in Jordan and the 16th in the region.

Several heads of states, including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, attended the forum. Endit
