Nigerian Muslim youths burn court protesting blasphemous comment on Prophet

Xinhua, May 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Some Muslim youths in northwest Nigeria's Kano State on Friday burnt a Sharia court situated at Rijiyar Lemo area of Kano metropolis.

After burning the court, the aggrieved youths took to the streets in protest against the blasphemous comment by a member of Tijjaniyya sect, one Malam Abdul Nyass.

The youths, who marched on the streets carrying placard with various inscriptions, condemned the statement made by the sect member against Prophet Muhammad.

Eye witnesses said the aggrieved youths also visited the Emir's palace and the Government House where they lodged their complaints.

Armed mobile policemen were drafted to the area before men of the state fire service could put out the fire.

Nyass was alleged to have made the uncomplimentary statement last week during a preaching session at Goron Dutse in the metropolis.

The spokesman of the police in Kano state, Musa Majia, could not be reached for confirmation as he declined to pick several phone calls. Endi
