Myanmar President U Thein Sein met with visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken in Nay Pyi Taw Thursday and the pair had discussions on "boat people, " said Minister of Information U Ye Htut.

The U.S. side vowed to offer humanitarian assistance to these people, while the Myanmar side maintained that if the migrants adrift at sea include those who are verified as Myanmar citizens, similar aid will be provided and repatriation will be arranged.

Meanwhile, Myanmar will send a delegation to attend an informal meeting on the issue scheduled for May 29 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The information minister emphasized the importance of cooperating with countries in the region to solve the issue of human trafficking.

The pair also touched on matters related to Myanmar's general election and enhancement of bilateral ties.
