Xinhua, May 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

The French government on Tuesday signed up to provide 41.6 million U.S. dollars to Cambodia for socio-economic development, according to a press statement.

The agreement was inked between Cambodian Finance Minister Aun Porn Moniroth and visiting French Secretary of State for Development and Francophonie Annick Girardin.

The aid included 39 million U.S. dollars loan for rehabilitating 1,200 km of rural roads and 2.6 million U.S. dollars grant for trade promotion, tourism development and education, the statement said, adding that since 1993, France had provided 347.4 million U.S. dollars to Cambodia for socio-economic development.

"Cambodia will use this aid effectively, transparently and responsibly in order to maintain confidence among the Cambodian people and development partners," said Aun Porn Moniroth.

Girardin arrived here on Monday for a three-day visit. Earlier in the day, she held a talk with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong, and both sides signed a four-year orientation and cooperation document (2015-2018) with an aim of further enhancing bilateral ties and cooperation.

She also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Hun Sen on Tuesday afternoon. Endi
