Indian Air Force chief embarks on four-day U.S. visit

Xinhua, May 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian Air Force's head Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha Monday embarked on a four-day visit to the United States to bolster bilateral defense relations between the two air forces.

"Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha's visit to the U.S. would further boost bilateral relations between the two Air Forces and is likely to provide greater convergence at the operational level," the Indian Air Force said.

During his visit, Raha will hold talks with senior U.S. military leadership and visit airbases under Special Ops Command and the Combined Air Operations Center at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

However, defense sources said that a pending defense deal worth 2.5 billion U.S. dollars may also be discussed between the two countries during the Indian Air Force chief's visit.

Under the deal, India is likely to acquire 22 AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopters and 15 CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift choppers from the United States.

The deal is likely to be inked during U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter's maiden visit to India early next month. Endi
