Philippine President Aquino's wealth surges to 1.53 mln USD in 2014

Xinhua, May 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III's wealth soared to 68.3 million pesos (1.53 million U.S. dollars) in 2014, owing to his newly inherited property and increase on interest incomes, a senior government official said Monday.

Aquino's statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) last year was a little bit higher than the 66.49 million pesos (1. 49 million U.S. dollars) net worth that he declared in 2013.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said that last year, Aquino included in his SALN a residential lot in Antipolo City in northern province of Rizal that he inherited from the side of his mother, late President Corazon Aquino.

Under the law, all government officials and employees are mandated to submit their SALNs stating the required information on or before April 30 of every year to curtail and minimize the opportunities for official corruption, as well as maintaining a standard of honesty in public service. Endi
