At least three people were killed and several others wounded when a suicide car bomb exploded near the airport of the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday, sources and witnesses said.

"The attack occurred at around 9:06 a.m. (0436 GMT) in Hawa Shinasi road near the military part of the Kabul international airport," witness Sayyied Jafar told Xinhua.

The target of the attack was a foreign military convoy traveling on the road, he said.

At least one foreign military personnel and two passersby were killed as seen by the witness.

"The incident caused causalities. We still cannot provide precise details on causalities," a security source told Xinhua.

Fire engines and ambulances were rushing to the scene as a plume of smoke was seen rise above the site.

The blast also damaged several shops and houses as well as vehicles in the area.

The government troops cordoned off the area shortly after the blast, keeping people from gathering at the scene for fears that there might be a second blast. Endi
