Xinhua, May 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Casualties were feared Sunday morning as an explosion rocked near the airport of the Afghan capital Kabul, sources and witnesses said.

"A powerful explosion went off at around 9:06 a.m. (0436 GMT) in Hawa Shinasi road near Kabul airport. The nature of the blast looked like a car bombing," witness Sayyied Jafar told Xinhua.

"We still cannot provide details on the incident. There is fear of possible causalities," a security source said.

The government troops cordoned off the area shortly after the blast, keeping people from gathering at the scene for fears that there might be a second blast.

A plume of smoke was seen rise above the scene. Endi
