Although Dutch cyclist Kirsten Wild of Hitec Products failed to win the final stage of the Tour of Chongming Island 2015, she successfully defended her title by leading the general individual classification here on Friday.

The 33-year-old became the final yellow jersey wearer with an overall record of seven hours, 46 minutes and 20 seconds, followed by French Roxane Fournier of Poitou-Charentes Futuroscope 86, who also won the final 83.2-kilometer stage. Italian Annalisa Cucinotta of Ale Cipollini sat in third overall.

It rained heavily during the competition, and several cyclists collided as they competed for the first sprint points. "I didn't sprint because my ultimate goal is the yellow jersey," said Wild who credited her victory to her teammates.

Huang Tingying of the Chinese Taipei cycling team became the top ranked Asian rider in the eighth place. Bai Yue of China Chongming-Liv-Champion System Pro Cycling placed 22nd.

As for general team classification, Italian team of Ale Cipollini took the lead among 18 teams, beating French team of Poitou-Charentes Futuroscope 86 to second and British team of Wiggle Honda to third.

The Tour of Chongming Island 2015, the highest level of its kind in Asia, consists of three stages with a total of 304 kilometers. The event is open to athletes of the women's elite category. Endi
