Fifth event of table tennis in Tokyo Olympics?

Xinhua, May 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Prior to 2015 World Table Tennis Championships, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) President Thomas Weikert talked in Lausanne about the possibility about table tennis having the fifth gold medal in 2020 Tokyo Olympics, ITTF official website said on Wednesday.

The two presidents discussed the possibility about table tennis having mixed doubles or mixed teams as its fifth event in 2020 Olympics, in addition to current four, namely men's and women's singles and men's and women's teams.

It was the first meeting between the two presidents since Weikert took over ITTF in September, 2014.

"My conversations with President Bach were positive, so we hope that we will have a fifth table tennis gold medal added by Tokyo 2020," said Weikert. Endi
