Belgium to strengthen anti-terrorism units

Xinhua, May 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Belgian anti-terrorism police units are set to be strengthened, Interior Minister Jan Jambon said on Wednesday.

The minister was speaking jointly with chief Commissioner of the Federal Police Catherine De Bolle in an interview with La Derniere Heure.

Police Anti-terrorism units will be strengthened with an additional 150 staff.

"Staff will be distributed in all the anti-terrorist cells that we will now set up in every major city. We will not have one central unit in Brussels, as is the case at present. All major cities have their units," Catherine De Bolle said.

Details of the exact nature of the role of police anti-terrorism units are currently under discussion. The interior minister is currently working on a plan that is due to be finalised before the summer. Endit
