Bulgarian, Spanish FMs express concern over migration

Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov and his visiting Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo on Tuesday expressed concern about the migration inflows coming to the European Union (EU).

"Within the EU, both countries have the understanding that, first, it is necessary to actively work with the third countries from which migratory flows originate," Mitov said at a joint press conference after bilateral talks.

Second, work should be done to stabilize the regions that create instability and generate waves of refugees, Mitov said.

Third, the financing of the countries hosting refugees should be jointly allocated, Mitov said.

"And fourth, the mere distribution of refugee flows should be taken by all member states, because this phenomenon affects all -- not only Bulgaria and not only Spain," Mitov said.

In turn, Margallo said illegal immigration currently worried the entire EU, and it should be controlled, while legal migration should be regulated.

EU member states should integrate immigrants and have to cooperate with the countries from which they come and pass, he said.

The visit marked the first by a Spanish foreign minister in Bulgaria since 2003. Endit
