Spanish treasury places 5.196 bln euros on market

The Spanish treasury on Tuesday placed treasury bills worth 5.196 billion euros (5.853 billion U.S. dollars) on the market registering a demand of 11.200 billion euros.

A total of 596 million euros worth of six month treasury bills carried an average interest rate of -0.002 percent, showing no major variation in comparison with the previous issue.

The placement also included 4.600 billion euros worth of 12-month treasury bills that fetched an average interest rate of 0.015 percent, rising slightly from the 0.006 percent of the previous issue held in April.

Spain's benchmark stock market index Ibex-35 fell 1.75 percent after the auction to 11,248.70 points. Spain's risk premium stood at 114.40 points, falling from the 117 points of early trading. (1 euro = 1.13 U.S. dollars) Endit
