83 militants killed in army operations in Afghanistan within day

Some 83 militants have been killed during Afghan National Army (ANA) operations across the country since early Monday, said the country's defense ministry on Tuesday morning.

"The ANA carried out military operations in different provinces over the past 24 hours, killing 83 militants and injuring nearly the same number," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.

About nine ANA troops were also killed within the same period, the statement confirmed.

The army also seized more than 400 kg of explosives in addition to confiscating weapons and ammunition during the raids, the statement noted.

The Afghan security forces have recently intensified operations across the country as spring and summer known as the fighting season is drawing near.
