Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying said on Tuesday that the government would employ different methods to explain its universal suffrage proposal to the community because it is a matter of great importance.
Speaking to reporters ahead of this morning's Executive Council meeting, Leung said government officials visiting various districts to reach out to the people and listen to their views was just one method.
He said it is easy to vote down the proposal, but society must consider the consequences and whether there will be a second chance to achieve "one-person, one-vote."
Leung added that only after universal suffrage for electing the chief executive is achieved, can a similar arrangement be pursued for the Legislative Council election.
Regarding various opinion polls on the government proposal that have been carried out recently, Leung noted that different polls conducted by different organizations yield different results, but they all provide a useful reference.
The chief executive also expressed his hope that the co- location of boundary control arrangements for the Guangzhou- Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link could be achieved, as it would offer more convenience for commuters and enhance development between in Hong Kong and in the mainland.
He said the arrangement has the support of the central government, but it also needs to comply with Hong Kong laws. Endi
