Vietnam targets 3 table tennis medals at 28th SEA Games

Xinhua, May 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Vietnam will send 10 table tennis players to the 28th SEA Games in June in Singapore, striving to bag home one silver and two bronzes, the country's General Department of Sports and Physical Training told Xinhua Tuesday.

The five men players include Le Tien Dat, Dinh Quang Linh, Duong Van Nam, Tran Tuan Quynh and Nguyen Anh Tu and their five women teammates are Phan Hoang Tuong Giang, Vu Thi Ha, Pham Thi Thien Kim, Nguyen Thi Nga and Mai Hoang My Trang.

Le Tien Dat grabbed one gold at the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar, while his teammates won three bronzes.

Hosts Singapore boasts the world's leading table tennis players, mostly naturalized Chinese athletes, thus Vietnamese players will find it hard to win a gold medal this year, said a senior official from the department.

Vietnam will send nearly 500 athletes to compete at 28 of 36 events at the 28th SEA Games, eyeing 60-70 golds. Vietnamese track and field athletes are expected to win around 10-11 golds, and swimmers some 10 golds, said the department.

Vietnam finished third at the 27th SEA Games, bagging home 245 medals, including 74 golds, 85 silvers and 86 bronzes. Endi
