Venezuelan Parliamentary elections to be held in last quarter of 2015

Xinhua, May 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Authorities announced Sunday that parliamentary elections of Venezuela would be held in the last quarter of this year.

The announcement was made by Tibisay Lucena, the president of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela (CNE), in an interview with local media.

She did not give an exact date for the elections but stressed the timing of the elections would serve for a complete success of the elections and "comply" with the political organizations of the country.

"We are also working on the internal elections for the candidates for National Assembly of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), to be held on June 28. And also the elections for the opposition coalition, Table of Unity (MUD), which will be held this coming May 17," she said.

Various sectors of the Venezuelan opposition have demanded that CNE set a precise date for parliamentary elections as the elections will define the political panorama of the country and help elect new members of the parliament for the years between 2016 and 2021. Endite
