PKK rebels kidnap two Turks in SE Turkey

Xinhua, May 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

A group of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) kidnapped two Turks in southeastern Turkey on Sunday, a military statement said.

According to a statement released by the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Froces, four PKK militants kidnapped two people living in the Malazgirt town of Mus province, asking them to join the PKK organization.

An investigation has been launched into the incident by Turkish authorities, the statement said.

The incident came about two months after the jailed leader of the PKK Abdullah Ocalan called on his followers to hold a congress "to end decades-long armed struggle" with Turkey, a move as part of a peace process involving negotiations between the government and Ocalan.

The country will hold the general elections on June 7. The PKK-affiliated Peoples' Democratic Party aims to come over 10 percent election threshold so as to get at least 50 seats in the parliament. Endit
